Avengers: Endgame is the culmination of 22 marvel films over the course of the last 12 years, and a continuation of the events that shocked the world during Avengers: Infinity War. Not only was Infinity war an amazing movie and a great cinematic experience, but it was absolutely heartbreaking film. Half of all life wiped out, half of our favorite heroes turned to ash. It was a very hard place to pick up from. But Endgame did it. Not only did Endgame do it, Endgame did it well, and anything that you might expect from it, it’s not that. From the first 20 minutes of the movie it takes an insane turn. Starting in the future dystopia where everyone is dealing with the loss of their loved ones, it seems all hope is lost for the Avengers. Slowly, the gang gathers back together and the original avengers, captain marvel, and the remaining guardians decide to go after Thanos. I went into the theater knowing this was a three hour movie, and that the Avengers could not possibly win this battle against Thanos, but when Thor chopped off Thanos’ arm and then his head, my jaw absolutely dropped. Thanos died at peace believing to have won, but the Avengers would not let that happen. However, for five years, nothing happened and the world tried to adapt to the loss of their loved ones. But then, ant man got out of the quantum realm. I had no idea that ant-man would be crucial to the plot, but he was. Although he didn’t solve it, he introduced the idea of time travel, and that was enough to get the Avengers and Tony and Bruce going. When Tony figures out time travel almost accidentally, it seems too good to be true, but it’s not. Once the plot to get the six infinity stones from the different points in time unfolds to undo Thanos’ snap, you get a sense of hope and a “fuck yeah” feel. But then that sense of hope is taken away when everyone’s plan starts to fail and Thanos gets alerted to the Avenger’s plan. Eventually, all the different altercations the Avengers are involved in are solved, and they return to the present, heartbroken because of black widow’s death. The gamora we though we knew is disguised as evil gamora from the past, and she opens the portal so Thanos’s ship breaks through the time portal. I thought when the Hulk put on the Iron Man infinity gauntlet, it was unbelievably cool. And when he snapped his fingers to bring everyone back… It was really amazing. The scene where antman saw the birds in the trees was also really calm and peaceful but it was interrupted by Thanos’s ship bombing the Avengers base. Everyone manages to make it out alive and one of the best battle sequences I’ve seen in a while. When captain America, Iron Man and Thor started beating down On thanos, it was one of the most amazing things I had seen. When Thor was pinned to the ground and about to be killed by Thanos, something amazing happened. You see Mjolnir slowly be lifted up and then Captain fucking America wields Thor’s hammer. How fucking cool is that? Not only that, but he begins to land blow after blow on Thanos and it sent shivers through my entire body, it was just that fucking cool. Obviously, that came to an end when Thanos thwacked cap and broke his shield, but it was still an amazing fight. Cap barely manages to get back up and Thanos’s entire army has arrived from his ship, ready to obliterate Earth. By far the most beautiful scene in that movie was Cap standing against Thanos’s entire army, ready to give up his life to save the earth. It was just plain beautiful. Then, when the portals started opening and Sam got on the radio with cap, I got an absolute rush. Everyone came back. Spiderman came back, it was great. Even fucking pepper pots showed up with he new suit. The charge and the collision of both forces (good and evil) was also a beautiful shot. Eventually the battle seems lost and everyone is about to die when Thanos’s ship stops firing upon them and starts shooting into the clouds. Then, suddenly, captain fucking marvel shows up and saves the day. She absolutely smashes through Thanos’s ship and the ship smashes into the water. She shows up just as Spiderman is about to lose the infinity gauntlet they’re fighting over and almost gets it into the portal but Thanos destroys it at the last second. The gauntlet clatters on the floor and Thanos eventually gets it on his hand, but captain marvel, Spiderman, everyone makes sure he can’t snap his fingers. Eventually, iron man makes one last go before Thanos eventually throws him off, delivering the line “I am inevitable” before snapping his fingers. But nothing happens. He turns the gauntlet around and all the stones are gone. The shot cuts to iron man, with all the FUCKING INFINITY STONES IN HIS SUIT ON THE BACK OF HIS HAND AND HOLY SHIT. When he said “And I…. Am…. Iron Man” then snaps his fingers… My entire body shook. The end of 22 movies, over 11 years, Iron Man, the one who started the entire Marvel Cinematic Universe, was the one to end it. It was really poetic. By far the most heart wrenching scene in the movie is when Iron man is dying, staring at Pepper, at Peter… And then it’s Peter’s turn to comfort Tony. Tony sits there dying in Peter’s arms and Peter says “It’s okay Mr. Stark. We won Mr. Stark. We won” and it just absolutely broke my heart. When the light went out on Iron Man’s suit… Just Jesus christ. Then it cuts to the funeral, in a really nice, peaceful scene. Everyone is gathered there, mourning Tony’s death, but there’s one last task left. Cap has to return the infinity stones to their timelines. When he goes into the time portal and disappears, you get concerned. But then you have a moment of realization. He intentionally didn’t come back, to be with the love of his life, since he lost her when he was frozen in ice for 70 years. Cap gets the happy ending he deserves, but before he goes out, he shows up, as an old man, on the bench next to the Avengers. He gives the shield to Sam and named him the new cap. The way the movie ended was really beautiful. It ended with him dancing with his wife in the 40s, the movie turning to black when they kiss. It was really just a beautiful movie and it perfectly wrapped up the entire series. It gave great endings to two of the major characters of the series. Iron Man died saving the universe, and cap got to live with the love of his life.
